Toshiba has announced the creation of the world's first technology that is intended for the production of memory chips MLC NAND type with topological 15 nm and a density of 128 gigabits. Mass production of the new technology will begin next month at Fab 5 located in Yokkaichi, which is currently used 19-nm technology of the second generation. In addition, Fab 5 is building the second line, which will be used later as a 15-nm process.
Notes that Toshiba managed to get the memory crystals with the smallest area in the classroom thanks to the 15-nm technology. In addition, improvements in chip peripheral elements allowed to increase the data rate 1.3 times compared with the 19-nm products, up to 533 Mbit / s. Data writing speed remains unchanged.
Toshiba is working on an adaptation of the 15-nm process technology for the production of chips type TLC NAND, the mass production of the company will be able to start in June. Along the way, Toshiba is going to present controllers for embedded solid state memory NAND, focused on a variety of electronic devices such as smartphones and tablets, as well as solutions for conventional SSD.
