According to Pao, Vive Pre system will consist of five parts: the wired helmet, two wireless controllers for each arm, and two base stations Lighthouse for laser motion tracking system. It is obvious that users also need a gaming computer on Windows, with a sufficiently powerful video card - at least it should be NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 or AMD Radeon R9 290, said Pao. That is, the requirements for the video card from the HTC headset is the same as at the Oculus Rift.

The base stations should be placed in opposite corners on the diagonal, at about 2 - 2.2 meters. But the length of this diagonal may be different. According to Pao, Vive Pre system seems best in his room with the dimensions of 4.5 x 4.5 meters, but at the same time for normal operation it is enough for area 1.5 x 2 meters. Separately it noted that the system does not need to play area perfectly rectangular. Also, Vive Pre has a feature that will protect the user from colliding with the surrounding things. With the built-in camera, a wireless controller and a special built-in software, the system will create a map of the objects located in the room, and will warn the user if he would be in close proximity to them.
Vive Pre helmet itself is connected to a computer via a wired interface, which will provide a stable connection, and minimum delay. As said Mr. Pao HTC considered different air interfaces, but none of them was able to fully meet the needs of developers, so the user will be linked by wires. However, Pao said that HTC continue to work on this, and as a result the helmet can be connected to a PC via a wireless interface. Related Products :
